Interplay of Glut 1 alteration and Alzheimer's disease: A narrative review on glucose transport and energy metabolism
Alzheimer’s disease is increasingly discussed not only as a proteinopathy but also as a disorder of brain energy metabolism. This narrative review examines the role of GLUT1 (glucose transporter 1) alteration in glucose transport across the blood–brain barrier and in neuronal energy supply.
The paper synthesises evidence linking impaired glucose uptake to disease progression and discusses why metabolic targets may complement existing therapeutic strategies in Alzheimer’s research.
